Jacob & Co’s brilliance is evident in every piece - but nowhere more so than in its Grand Complication Masterpieces. Epitomised by the daring Astronomia Tourbillon, which contains a working model of the celestial elements in a crystal dome, these are timepieces that take the art of horology to new places.
‘Jacob the Jeweller’ began his professional life selling jewellery from a kiosk in Manhattan’s Diamond District. By the age of 21, he had founded his own company, and was soon selling Jacob & Co branded pieces of his own design.
The entrepreneur’s unique sense of style immediately attracted clientele from the world of hip hop: Faith Evans and The Notorious B.I.G. were among his first clients, and the moniker Jacob the Jeweller soon rang out in tracks laid down by the biggest names in the industry. Nas, Jay-Z, Kanye, 50 Cent name-checked him. The highest-flying members of New York’s celebrity-studded music world wanted a Jacob & Co jewellery piece.
And then, in 2002, Jacob the Jeweller began designing luxury watches.
A Jacob & Co watch is like no other timepiece. It is a masterwork of high jewellery. It is a perfectly-tuned combination of complications, in which every element is designed to work for the international lifestyle of Jacob’s clients. From luxury sports watches with power and soul, to haute horlogerie achievements of extraordinary audacity and opulence, Jacob & Co’s timepieces are the ultimate expressions of horological beauty.
There’s a personality for every occasion: and there’s a Jacob & Co luxury watch for every superstar. The steampunk intrigue of the Quenttin Tourbillon. The bold colours of the Rainbow Tourbillon. The racing lines of the Epic X. And Jacob the Jeweller’s luxury watches don’t just look unique. Beneath the surface of every piece beats the highest quality of Swiss horological engineering, a delicately-designed mechanical or digital heart for a work of true timekeeping art.
Jacob & Co is known as ‘The Master of World Time’, a statement of intent that shows in many of the brand’s most iconic pieces. The signature Five Time Zones movement, developed by Swiss luxury watch makers for Jacob & Co’s first ever watch, is capable of simultaneously displaying the time in Paris, New York, Tokyo, LA, and the wearer’s current location: each time zone reading out on a separate, two-handed display. The Ghost’s digital movement keeps track of local time in 20 different cities, and the watch can display five of them at once on its customisable face.
Not all luxury watch makers are able to inject a completely different persona into every piece they create - and of those that can, not many manage to keep something of themselves stamped on each one. But Jacob the Jeweller is different. His luxury watches, individual though they are, are all part of his personality. And his personality is the biggest in New York.
As Jacob himself says: ‘When I design something and I love it myself, I know it’s going to be big’. Jacob & Co luxury watches might not be for everybody. Their price tags alone reserve them for the richest of the rich. But if you are lucky enough to own one, you get it. These are exclusive timepieces, created for people who can afford to indulge their largest dreams.
