Omega

Omega Seamaster, Planet Ocean, and Aqua Terra models have graced the wrist of the world’s most famous secret agent as he battles the hidden enemies of MI6 with his customary combination of suave reliability and robust action. However, it was not with Bond that Omega luxury watches had their finest hour, but in space.

An Omega Speedmaster Professional, now known as the ‘Moonwatch’, was worn by NASA astronauts as they walked on the surface of the Moon - making it the only chronometer ever to be worn outside a lunar vehicle during a landing mission. Two great legacies: one huge reputation. It’s hardly surprising that Omega watches are recognised in every country on the planet.

In space missions, timing is critical. Without the split-second accuracy of their Omega Speedmasters, the crew of Apollo 13 may never have returned to Earth following the explosion of one of the craft’s oxygen tanks. Such was the importance of the Speedmaster to NASA’s Apollo missions that the Omega brand was awarded a rare ‘Silver Snoopy’ pin: a commendation given by the astronauts themselves to recognise outstanding contributions to human safety or mission success.
